The History of the Inuit Go back one page |

|
"For the Inuit living here hundreds or thousands of years ago, every day was a struggle. Without warm clothing and shelter, the people wouldn't be able to survive very long in the freezing Arctic. Igloos were made during the winter, and tents were made in the summer for shelter. They relied on the meat of animals for food, but also on the fur for creating clothing like the traditional parka. No part of the animal was wasted. It was believed that every animal had a spirit or a soul, and that if it was hunted and killed, the Inuit must treat them with respect and attempt to speak to its spirit, so it would not be offended." |
