Inside A Glacial Cave                                                                         Go back one page

Indeed, only a few hundred feet away lies an entrance to the inside of a glacier! After pleading with Mr. Okpik, he agrees to take you closer so you can get a better look. As you enter you notice the calm flowing water beneath your feet. It truly is a magnificent sight. But you also hear something else in the distance...it must be a human voice's echo! Intrigued, you follow the voice until you see a frantic old man mumbling to himself.

"Yes... due to the internal differences in glacier velocity, this narrow moulin must have formed, allowing water to leak through and create this glacial cave...quite interesting...Oh! I'm sorry, don't mind me. Just doing some glaciospeleology research here! Yes, I mean the study of glacial caves. I'm a glaciologist, and this is the sort of thing I do! Studying glaciers is very important you see. It lets us see what the world used to look like, and it also helps us predict climate change and what the world will look like in the future! Yes, quite interesting indeed."
